Synonyms

The Synonyms section in Visidea allows you to map words or phrases to alternative terms, improving the search engine's ability to find relevant results. When a user searches for a term that has a synonym defined, the search engine will use the new term instead of the original, ensuring more accurate and comprehensive search results.

Main Features​

  • Search Bar: Quickly find existing synonym mappings by searching for text, synonym, or language.
  • Synonym List: View all current synonym mappings in a table with columns for:
    • Text (the original search term)
    • Synonym (the replacement term)
    • Language (e.g., "it" for Italian)
    • Actions (edit or delete a mapping)
  • Add Synonym: Click the ADD SYNONYM button to create a new mapping. Fill in:
    • Text: The word or phrase to be replaced
    • Synonym: The word or phrase to use instead
    • Language: The language for which this mapping applies
    • Click SAVE to add the synonym
  • Edit/Delete: Use the gear (edit) or trash (delete) icons to modify or remove existing mappings.

Example Workflow​

  1. Click ADD SYNONYM to create a new mapping.
  2. Enter the original term (e.g., foo).
  3. Enter the synonym (e.g., bar).
  4. Select the language (e.g., en).
  5. Click SAVE to apply the mapping.
  6. Now, when users search for foo, the search engine will use bar instead.

Tips​

  • Use synonyms to handle common misspellings, abbreviations, or alternate product names.
  • Regularly review and update your synonym list to keep search results relevant.
  • Synonyms are language-specific, so be sure to set the correct language for each mapping.

The Synonyms section helps make your search engine smarter and more user-friendly by ensuring users always find the products they're looking for, even if they use different terms.
